I've just installed Ubuntu 15.10 on another 500GB drive. Figured I'd keep the thread up-to-date in case anyone was interested.

    • Intel i5-4460
    • EVGA GeForce GTX 660Ti FTW+
    • Corsair CX500m
    • 8GB Crucial Ballistix Sport
    • ASRock H97 Anniversary MOBO
    • 2 500GB HDD (one with Win10, another with Ubuntu)
    • CoolerMaster N400

    Spoiler for Original Post:
This is an entry-level build on a budget. I tried to stay around the $400-$600 range.

The 750Ti SC is a power-sipper, and performs quite well from what I've read. It's also cheap for what you get. The g3258 is kind of a no-brainer for a budget build. If you can OC it it will perform fantastically for a $70 dual-core (the Cooler Master Hyper 212 seems to be the way to go for a CPU cooler). 2x2GB sticks of ram should be enough, I would think. However, if you really need to it wouldn't cost much at all to go for an 8GB setup. I'm trying to get away with as much as possible for as little as I can, if you didn't already pick up on that. MOBO is also a dead-pick; it was made for the CPU. I'm not so decided on the PSU and tower, however. I think a 400W PSU would be enough for OCing capabilities, but I'm not sure as I don't have experience with this stuff. The tower I haven't got much clue about, either. It says there are no incompatibilities so I'm guessing I'd be okay with that tower. The mouse and keyboard are just something I saw that was cheap, looked decent, and had decent reviews.

Intel Pentium G3258, EVGA GeForce GTX 750 Ti, Deepcool TESSERACT SW - System Build - PCPartPicker

If anyone could tell me if I can run games like Arma II: DayZ or the standalone DayZ, as well as the FPS I can expect on LoL, Minecraft, Runescape, CS:GO, Diablo III, WoW, SC2, and Garry's Mod, that would be fantastic. I've done some research into what kind of FPS I can expect from a few games and I think I'll be alright, but not 100 percent sure.

If I've done my research correctly I should be sitting pretty for a build here. I'm just looking for others' thoughts and advice on the build. I'm quite happy with what I've set up here.

Edit: I have no clue for space and wiring and all that, if someone could educate me on what I can expect or a better tower I can choose, I'd appreciate it.

Intel Core i5-4590, EVGA GeForce GTX 660 Ti, Deepcool TESSERACT SW - System Build - PCPartPicker

An updated build with a 660Ti FTW and i5-4590. Someone is gifting me the 660Ti for free, so I can put the saved money towards other parts of the PC! I've also updated the PSU to an Antec VP450. I don't plan to OC this CPU, so hopefully this build will be alright (plus I can play quad-core games now)!

Operating systems are a waste of money. You can download them and store them on a disc or flashdrive. So, if you take that off the list, you can add another part or upgrade some parts.

Looks solid, wouldn't spend money on an OS though.
Buy from the money you save, a gold PSU.

I just want a product key so I don't have to worry about not having a genuine Windows OS.

A strong PSU would be nice, but like I said, I want a genuine OS.

Well, then I guess buying the OS is fine.

Also, I find this build extremely powerful for its price and will last a long ass time compared to what you have:

Ubuntu is a free/strong OS, and these days a lot of games support Linux, because of all the Microsoft failures.
Linux has all the big Steam games, League Of Legends, Runescape, World Of Warcraft,...
    It's also really user friendly
You can also buy Windows later on, if you don't like Ubuntu.

Too expensive for my budget. Those processors are also dual-cores - I want a quad.

I've got Ubuntu installed now, and I'm actually glad I started with Windows 7 first. Adding in a completely new OS, along with my first ever build, would have been a little too stressful. However, I am very glad that I have taken the plunge into Linux. I'm loving it so far.

Edit: Sorry for the 3x post.
