I was reading one of the sticky threads about which distros people are using to figure out which distro i'd like to use and I'm really having trouble figuring out which one to use.. anyone mind helping me point out some distros & some pros&cons to it? I'm specifically looking for something lightweight, i plan on programming a lot on it a lot and messing around with website related stuff like hosting, mysql, php stuff -- just playing around with things like that, thanks

Ubuntu would probably be a good start, the first distro I used A LOT was Kali Linux which is based on Debian. I'd say Ubuntu or Fedora would be your best bet for a beginner. If you need any help, feel free to PM me and I can give you my Skype.

Do you have any knowledge with the command line? If you do, then blank Debian is your way to go. You can easily customize Debian to whatever shell you want, and it is very secure.

If you're not to familiar with the command line, and want something relatively mainstream try Linux Mint. Mint is very crisp and has a great feel giving a regular desktop feel, but allowing the user to customize the HUD and has extensive support for applications.

Debian is really terminal reliant so you need to have strong command line skills, same with Kali since it's built on Debian. Linux Mint, Ubuntu, or Fedora are probably your best bet.

Linux Mint. Fast, simple and lightweight. It will also allow you to get used to the terminal first so then you can switch to distros like Arch.
