mint pretty much summed it up pretty well. a "game design" degree is usually a 2-year course, which won't really get you a job unless you have a significant skill-set. If you want to pursue a career in programming in general, then it is a poor choice obviously because you are only exposed to one type of software (games). Most of them won't even go in depth with the major programming languages (java, c++, etc) and will just teach you how to use Unity or GameMaker. A Computer Science degree is the superior choice because it makes it easier to work with any type of software, and you actually learn different programming languages etc.
