I don't see why you think this is the one JaGEx uses... there are many 'reliable' database systems.. why this one? 'because it would make sense' is not good reasoning
this thread doesn't really have much discussion value either

They would use they're own custom-made database's, that way if they fucked up in any database related circumstance, they would be able to jump to, and fix the problem in no-time. Also that the databse would be "created" for RuneScape and it would be suited to it's storing of information for specific things, such as .... Idk, you think of it.

anyone implying that jagex has written their own database technology is dumb as fuck. jagex is simply not large enough to require something not provided by other popular database management technologies.

- RuneScript.
- .ws
- Modelling software.
- Animation software.
- Obfuscator.
- More I've forgotten/we don't know about.
What's so far fetched to think that they wouldn't write their own database management system as well?
Admittedly it's a larger task to create than any of the above, but still.

I believe Jagex uses Oracle, (i think, not 100%) Paul (devoloper @ jagex) said it somewhere in the Q&A threads.
Also i agree with saifix. Jagex is capable of making their own database engine, etc but it would be pointless. Jagex uses Java to write all their applications, so making a database engine written in java would be ridiculously slow. They would want their engine to be as fast as possible, because they probably deal with alot of data.
i know for a fact that the Canada post people use S.A.P for all of their servers (including data storage for things like parsel location (tracking), and other account information).. i wouldn't be surprised if they used something like s.a.p for their database stuff (keep in mind the website IS on a java webserver)
