People need to just make servers for fun, then things would be good.

Is it worth the time to successfully develop an adapt server and get it online anymore? I noticed the great servers that were being programmed the last time I was were here (Paragon, Endeavor, etc) didn't really make the cut and gain popularity. This made me think if it was truly worth the time and investment to get back into running a server. All the popular servers that are up right now haven't made any record breaking advancement any time recently, and in all honestly, everything RSPS wise has stayed the same in the last year or two. With that in mind, all the servers that are successful as of right now have only gained their popularity through thousands of dollars of advertising. A great server with a few hundred dollars worth of ads wouldn't even gain popularity at this point, and the only servers that have a slight chance at making it into the big leagues have been the ones that have been programmed for over a year (Arios, etc).
tldr; title

If you actually want to make a successful RSPS you don't need to make all this new stuff or make it bug free, the average RSPS player who has no experience in game development doesn't care if the game has bugs or not as long as they can play it how they want and sometimes it's the bugs which make RSPS funny and enjoyable.
People like fast EXP rates with competitive PvP.
I doubt the people who have been with RSPS's in the last three years are wanting to make a server just for fun. At this point, it's all about the easy money that can be obtained from keeping a server onliine.
I guess you're right in a way, but the morality of developing an effciently programed a server as well as advertising costs gets in the way of achieving that goal.
not with jagex out for blood for any server which gets popular.
I don't think it that way, i think as long as i can make even 10 players happy for running a rsps i would do so.
When i start a rsps i dont have a 1k playerbase in my mind.
Now a days most people just host rsps to gain money off it for me the income is just a bonus.
It's not worth it anymore, in my honest opinion. I am done with rsps, and I don't want to take part of it anymore. I am going to learn more about programming languages, I want to get more in depth. I am currently developing a text-based java game(which is more of a script). Once I learn more Java and other languages I will be programming my own 3d game. I like designing, and I also like directing, writing, alot of things. As you can see by my previous name and sig, I want to create a series of comic books. I want to keep my mind busy, but rsps are useless and they're all ran by clueless people. :/
Tbh I make RSPS for the popularity, fun and enjoyment. **** da monies.
If all you want is money then meh.
If you just like to have fun coding, messing around a bit on your server, and like to see people having fun, then yes it is worth it. You don't need a shit ton of players as long as the ones you have are enjoying themselves.
