so your alternative is to teach them terribly. ok then

I'm hoping as you progress as a programmer you'll be able to differentiate between more efficient ways to do things. If you don't, then obviously you don't care to learn.
giving them a shit alternative and waiting for them to figure out that it sucks isnt going to work.

Unfortunately there is no way to make programming an RSPS a full-time job, which would allow someone to produce the ideal source, provide updates, and maintain it. What we're left with instead is generations of bandaids and updates on-top of a proof of concept. PI is so common because you can start with many man hours already implemented, making it easy to modify and produce quicker results at the end user. There are problems with it at the core. Networking can always be improved. Packets are still a bit of a joke. (many reading in wrong datatypes, or even just unhandled) The way that NPCs are written is a joke which is a result of wL being a proof of concept. I imagine the developer(s) then were rushing to get NPCs out to prove that they were possible, instead of constructing proper structures for long-term.

Starting over is hard because you have a looot of work ahead of you. You really can't appreciate the littler things in these other sources until you're doing everything from scratch. Players tend to notice the tiniest of details; you can't leave any stone unturned when starting from scratch if you're working towards a heavily played and high-quality server.

Once again, I don't think anyone (maybe someone has) is willing to put in the time because it simply isn't worth it. At the end of the day, if you write code long-term and build an incredible server, you're ultimately just waiting to be sued by Jagex. Why put in 2 years of development to get it all taken in a quick suit? It'd be great if Jagex was transparent and allowed server owners to pay licensing fees for the client. I'd always root for this option. It's like the war on drugs in the great USA, lol.
    Learning... slowly.
